The
Pushkar fair is amongst the most unique fairs of its
kind in the world. It is a combination of an animal
fair and the human fair. Both the fairs are enchanting
and have their own unique aspects and quality.
As per the Indian calender the fair is held in
the first lunar cycle (New moon to full moon) in the
month of kartik (Oct-Nov), culminating on the
full moon. The last four days of the fair are considered
as the holiest occasion for all the believers of Hinduism.
A bath in the sacred Pushkar Lake is considered the
ultimate act of spirituality. The cattle fair
takes place during the first nine days of the fair peaking
from the 5th day and finishing on the 9th day. The animals
start dispersing from 9th day. The last four days are
the dates of the sacred human fair.
To
witness the extravaganza of the cattle fair it is
always advisable to visit Pushkar before the official
dates. A tourist can see the fair in all its glory,
away from the crowds that accumulate later.more
