Prior to Independence, the prince state of Jamnagar was ruled
by Jadeja rajputs. The city was built around the small Ranmal
Lake, in the centre of which is a small palace.
The city has a long history of pearl fishing and a local variety
of tie-dyeing, but today is more well knows for having the
only ayurvedic university in India and a temple listed in
Guiness Book of Records.
The old part of the town is impressive with its old buildings
