Mumbai-Hyderabad-Karimnagar-Warangal-Vijaywada-Chennai-Mahabalipuram-Chennai

Day
01 : ARRIVE MUMBAI.
On arrival transfer to the domestic
airport to board flight for Hyderabad. Arrive Hyderabad
and transfer to prebooked hotel. In the afternoon, half
day city tour of Hyderabad.
Overnight at the hotel.

02 : HYDERABAD
After breakfast, visit of Bidri, Pearl
workshops alongwith Banjara Embroidery within Hyderabad
city.
BIDRI :
The craft with its origin in Persia had entered first Bidar
in Karnataka and later to Hyderabad, its neighbourhood in
Andhra Pradesh state. The craft is made out of an alloy
of copper and zinc in 1:16 proportion with an inlay of silver
strings. Oxidised articles look grey in colour. Cigar boxes,
ash trays, paper cutters, pendants, buttons
etc.
PEARL : Hyderabad is
renowned as the pearl capital of India. With the skillful
artisans who had migrated from various parts of the country
to Hyderabad to impress the erstwhile rich Nizam Kings with
Pearl Bangles, Bracelets, Necklaces, rings and many more
things. One could witness the processing of fresh water
and sea pearls with different sizes, staining and grading.
BANJARA
ENBROIDERY : Tribes
from Rajasthan migrated long ago to the hilly region in
Hyderabad, the local gypsies, still make their living by
weaving colorful embroidery work by using mirrors and beeds
carried artistically on clothes.
Afternoon, visit of Textile village,
Pochampally (35 kms one way). Return to Hyderabad for overnight
stay. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 03 :
HYDERDABAD - KARIMNAGAR
Afer breakfast, drive on the excellent National
Highway to the north of Hyderabad to visit the Nirmal town
and Ushagaom village. Continue drive to Karimnagar to look
at the Silver Filigree. Arrive Karimnagar and checkin at
prebooked hotel.

NIRMAL
: This craft known after the name of the village
"Nirmal" is pursued by a group of artisans called "Magash",
partronised by the Mughal rulers of 14th century. The paintings
in mythological and mughal themes, floral of different sizes
and colour. Rajasthani and french style sofasets, partition
screens etc are the main products.
DOKRA METALS
CASTINGS : Tribal craft made out of brass crap, is
pursued by Ojha community. Thin strings of wax are drawn and
laid all over a core of clay in a patter as per design and later
covered uniformly by clay again leaving a hole for pouring the
molten brass crap. Bird and animals, local deites, lamps etc.
are main products.
SILVER FILIGREE
: 150 kms north of Hyderabad is the district of Karimnagar.
The age old artisans still make the silver filigree articles.
The rich Nizam kings, used to patronise to gift the dignitaries
visiting Hyderabad. The articles are made to order which include
the famous Charminar, Jewellery box, cigar boxes and other intricately
designed articles with pure silver. There are only a few artisans
left in the town
Day 04 : KARIMNAGAR-WARANGAL
After breakfast, drive to Warangal
(70 kms) to look at the Durries and Brass metal works. Arrive
Warangal and checkin at prebooked hotel. Overnight at the hotel
DURRIES : The hand
woven durries making is pursued by over 1500 families. The industry
had its predominance with the decline of carpet industry in
this area. Tie and Dye, Interloc, Jacquard etc are some of the
commonly used designs in demand in both domestic market as well
as export market. Lahari, Sittamajada, Mogga, Diamond fish,
Kamal, Dilkush etc are some of the popular designs. Kalamkari
block prints on plain woven durries have gained importance.
BRASS METAL WORK : Warangal
is also popular for Brass metal work. Includes the idols, gift
articles, presentations etc. One could witness the artisans
working in their respective ethnic village atmosphere. Most
of the government and private firms get their orders done here.
Day
05 : WARANGAL-VIJAYAWADA
After
breakfast, leave for Vijayawada enroute visiting Kondapalli
Village
KONDAPALLY :
The name popular with the 14th century fort of Hindu Rajas.
At the foothills, is a small village with the artisans working
on the Puniki wood and painting with enamel colors on it. The
human figures depicting different occupation in the villages,
birds and animals, Ambari elephants, mythological subjects like
God and Goddesses figures etc with water color paintings.
Arrive Vijayawada and checkin at prebooked
hotel. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 06 : VIJAYAWADA
After breakfast, drive to Machilipatnam
(80 kms)
MACHILIPATNAM
: The small town on the east coast of Andhra Pradesh
is an excellent place for the cloth merchants to bargain with
the skillful artisans working on Kalamkari. Kalamkari work involves
15 stages. Red, yellow, maroon, Indigo and blue are commonly
used colors. Painting are also done on sarees, cushions etc.
The block printing on bleached cloth is famous here.
After visiting Machailipatnam continue derive to Narsapur
& Palkot (130 kms).
NARSAPUR & PALKOL : The craft originally introduced
by Mrs. Macrau of Scotland in the 19th century to provide employment
to the rural women. Almost every housewife as a part time occupation
does this Crochet and Laces in this area. The designs are intricate
and artistic luncheon sets, doylies, rounds, oblongs, table
covers and door curtains etc.
After the visit, drive back to Vijayawada
(150 kms) for overnight stay. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 07 : VIJAYAWADA-CHENNAI
(By overnight train)
Day
free. In the evening transfer to the railway station to board
train for Chennai at 2010 hrs.

08 : VISHAKHAPATNAM
On arrival transfer to prebooked
hotel. In the afternoon, half day city tour of Chennai. Overnight
at the hotel.
Day 09 : CHENNAI-MAHABALIPURAM
After breakfast, leave for
Mahabalipuram enroute visiting Kanchipuram. Continue drive to
Mahabalipuram. Arrive Mahabalipuram and checkin at prebooked
hotel. Afternoon, visit Mahabalipuram. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 10 : MAHABALIPURAM
At
leisure on the beach.
Overnight at the hotel.
Day 11 : MAHABALIPURAM-CHENNAI
Morning, free. Afternoon, leave for Chennai.
Arrive Chennai and checkin at prebooked hotel. Overnight at
the hotel.
Day 12 : LEAVE
CHENNAI.
Transfer to the international airport
to board flight back home.
