| DAY
01 : ARRIVE DELHI On arrival meet and assist at the airport & transfer to prebooked hotel for overnight stay. Delhi : India’s capital & a major gateway to the country, contemporary Delhi is a bustling metropolis which successfully combines in its fold the ancient & the modern. Its strategic location was one of the prime reasons why successive dynasties chose it as their seat of power. New Delhi also reflects the legacy the British left behind . The division between New & Old Delhi is the distinction between the capitals of the British & the Moghuls respectively. So, wherever the visitor goes, he will invariably confront the citys’ past. DAY 02 : DELHI After breakfast, city tour of Old Delhi. Visit the Jama Masjid, Red Fort and Rajghat. Afternoon, city tour of New Delhi. Visit Humayun's Tomb, Qutab Minar, drive past India Gate, President House and Connaught Place. The tour ends with a visit to Birla Mandir. DAY 03 : DELHI-LEH Early morning, transfer to the airport to board your flight for Leh. On arrival in Leh transfer to prebooked hotel. Get acclamatised with the altitude (3000 mtrs approx) by an afternoon walk in the fascinating Leh bazaar. DAY
04 : LEHFull day sightseeing of Leh including Leh Palace - built in 16th century the palace resembles mystic Dalai Lamas Potala Palace in the forbidden Lhasa, Tibet. Also visit Shankar Gompa. DAY 05 : LEH Excursion to Shey - the old summer palace of the kings of Ladakh and was built about 500 yrs ago; Thikse Gompa - 17 kms from Leh this monastery is very picturesque and superbly sited on a hilltop overlooking river Indus. It also has an important collection of Tibetan style books in its library; Hemis Gompa - one of the largest and most important Gompas in Ladakh is 45 kms from Leh. This Gompa is famous for it Hemis festival which usually falls in the second half of June or early July; Stok Palace - a 200 year old palace. DAY 06 : LEH Excursion to Khardungla Pass at 5602 mtrs, the highest road in the world and entrance to the Nubra valley, the forbidden valley. It was a part of the famous Caravan Silk route of Central Asia for centuries. DAY 07 : LEH Excursion to 1000 year old Gompa, Spitok and Phyang. DAY 08 : LEH-CHANDIGARH After breakfast, transfer to the airport to board flight for Chandigarh. On arrival in Chandigarh transfer to prebooked hotel. In the afternoon, visit Chandigarh, modern garden city designed by famous French architect Le Corbusier. Visit the Rock Garden, Rose Garden. Also visit the Yadavindra Gardens at Pinjore designed by Fidai Khan, Aurangzeb's foster brother who also designed the Badshahi mosque in Lahore (Pakistan). The gardens include the Rajasthani Mughal style Shish Mahal Palace, Rang Mahal & the cubical Jal Mahal. There is an otter house and other animals can be seen in the mini zoo near the gardens. DAY 09 : CHANDIGARH-DHARAMSALA After breakfast, leave for Dharamasala (09 hrs. drive). After the Chinese invasion to Tibet, the Dalai Lama and his followers fled to Dharamsala. This hill station is now best known as the seat of Tibet's government in exile and the temperory home of His Holiness. On arrival in Dharamsala checkin at your prebooked hotel. For the serious student of Tibetan culture there's the Monastery up at Mcleodganj and the school of Tibetan studies and its culture. This is considered to be one of the best in the world for studying Tibet and its culture. Arrive Dharamsala & check in at prebooked hotel. DAY 10 : DHARAMSALA Sightseeing at McLeodganj, the seat of Dalai Lamas government in exile. DAY 11 : DHARAMSALA-AMRITSAR After breakfast, drive to Amritsar. On arrival in Amritsar check in at prebooked hotel. Amristar was founded in 1577 by Ram Das, the fourth guru of the Sikhs. The names means Pool of Nector, referring to the sacred tank around which the Sikhs Golden temple is built. The original site of the city was granted by the Mughal Emperor, Akbar, but in 1761 Ahmad Shah Durani sacked the town and destroyed the temple. It was rebuilt in 1764 and in 1802 was roofed with copper gilded plates by Ranjit Singh and became known as "The Golden Temple". Afternoon, visit the Golden temple - the holiest shrine of the Sikh religion, also known as Hari Mandir; Jallianwala Bagh - The park commemorates the 2000 Indians who were killed or wonded at this site, shot indiscriminately by the British in 1919. The story of this massacre is told in the Martys' Gallery and a section of wall with bullet marks still visible is preserved, as the well into which some people jumped to escape can be seen; Ram Bagh - a beautiful garden has a museum built by Sikh Maharaja Ranjit Sing and has weapons dating back to Mughal time and some portraits of ruling houses of Punjab. DAY 12 : AMRITSAR-DELHI Transfer to railway station to board train for Delhi. On arrival in Delhi transfer to prebooked hotel for overnight stay. DAY 13 : DEPART DELHI Transfer to the international airport to board your flight back home/onward destination. |
